SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The State Bar of Michigan (SBM) Intellectual Property Section, in partnership with the Institute of Continued Legal Education, is hosting a seminar for lawyers and paralegals to teach the core basics of IP law practice. The panels, composed of experienced Michigan patent and trademark attorneys, will offer opportunities to network, as well as practical advice and winning strategies.
Brooks Kushman attorneys Hope Shovein and Robyn Lederman will be moderating and speaking at the event on trademark prosecution, and will discuss analyzing, registering and maintaining trademarks. As Chair of the SBM IP Law Section, Shovein will moderate the seminar and co-present on Trademark Prosecution with Lederman.
Attendees of the seminar will learn the nuts and bolts of IP law practice, such as the trademark life-cycle, how to avoid office actions, and improving prosecution outcomes before U.S. and foreign patent offices. The aim is to think about the “big picture” when advising clients on patent and trademark matters.
Shovein focuses her practice on the procurement and enforcement of trademark rights. Her work encompasses managing domestic and international trademark portfolios; trademark clearance searches and opinions; drafting and negotiating agreements; preparing and responding to cease and desist letters; and representing clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She has been listed as a Michigan Super Lawyer for intellectual property from 2013-2017 and was named a Michigan Super Lawyer Rising Star from 2011-2012. Michigan Lawyers Weekly named her as an “Up & Coming Lawyer” in 2010 and one of its “Women in the Law” in 2016.
