SOUTHFIELD, Mich., – Brooks Kushman P.C. is again expanding its intellectual property (IP) expertise with the addition of two new attorneys. Brooks Kushman is pleased to announce that Timothy B. Clise and Jennifer K. Ziegler have joined the firm as Senior Attorneys. The addition of Clise and Ziegler extends a series of recent new hires and promotions as the firm continues to expand its capacity in response to growing client needs.

Clise adds significant depth to Brooks Kushman`s electrical engineering patent prosecution team, offering both in-house experience and leadership capabilities gained from managing his own firm. He specializes in U.S. and international patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical, mechanical and electromechanical arts for large, Fortune 500 companies to small start-ups. Clise`s practice and experience expands beyond traditional IP and across a wide range of industries and technologies.
Most recently, Clise served as a senior patent attorney and member of the Strategic Patent Development Team for Blackberry Limited where he evaluated internal inventions, directed patent application drafting on a worldwide basis and managed U.S. and European patent professionals to facilitate direct filing of responses. Prior, he was a managing attorney at Clise, Billion & Cyr in Minneapolis and an attorney/officer at the national IP firm Schwegman, Lundberg, & Woessner, which is also located in Minneapolis.
He earned his J.D. from University of Dayton School of Law in Ohio and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University in East Lansing. Clise is a member of the State of Michigan Bar, U.S. Patent Bar, State of Minnesota Bar and the American IP Law Association.
Ziegler also joins the firm as a Senior Attorney with nearly 20 years of combined in-house and outside counsel experience practicing in the trademark and copyright law areas. She specializes in global brand protection, trademark and copyright enforcement, anti-counterfeiting and trademark portfolio management. Ziegler has extensive experience working with clients in a variety of industries, including automotive, consumer products, entertainment, bio-tech and life sciences, and financial services.
Prior joining Brooks Kushman, Ziegler served as Senior Trademark Counsel, then Associate General CounselTrademarks, for Harley-Davidson Motor Company in Ann Arbor where she oversaw all aspects of trademark registration and brand protection in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Before this, she served as senior associate attorney at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP in Boston and has also held other associate attorney positions.
She earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Ziegler is a member of the Supreme Courts of Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts and Michigan, American Bar Association, Association of Corporate Counsel and International Trademark Association. She is also a trained mediator.
