Brooks Kushman announced today that Daniel M. Stock, former in-house counsel at Ford Motor Co., has recently joined the law firm. The announcement was made by Ernie L. Brooks, president and founding partner.
Stock – who has practiced intellectual property (IP) law for nearly 35 years – has significant experience in patent and trademark prosecution. He also has extensive counseling and litigation experience in patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and IP matters relating to the handling of company proprietary information and purchase and sale activities.
Additionally, Stock has broad expertise in instrument drafting and negotiation for transactions related to confidential business and technical information, IP licensing, product development, government contracts, mergers and acquisitions and IP aspects of purchasing transactions.
“Dan`s calm, analytical and pragmatic approach to solving the business and legal problems inherent in automotive industry transactions was highly respected by his corporate employers and colleagues,” Brooks said. “Dan`s addition to the team – along with Phyllis Morey from Lear Corp., who recently joined Brooks Kushman as head of our commercial litigation and e-discovery compliance – further strengthens our in-house counsel perspective to assist our clients` needs.”
Prior to joining Brooks Kushman, Stock spent 25 years with Ford where he retired in 2006 as managing counsel – IP litigation. In this role, he directed all Ford patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright litigation throughout the world. He held this position for 10 years, while simultaneously serving for a time as acting chief IP counsel of Volvo Car Corp. in Sweden.
Previously while at Ford, he was responsible for IP matters related to vehicle body structures, hardware, components and safety systems. For several years, Stock was Ford`s legal representative to the United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR). He also handled Ford Tractor matters, including the acquisition of the businesses that made up Ford New Holland, Inc. and the subsequent sale of that company.
Prior to this, Stock served as a patent attorney at both Eaton Corp. in Southfield, Mich. and Chrysler Corp. Before beginning his practice in IP law, he worked as an aircraft hydraulics engineer with Vickers Inc. (formerly a division of Sperry Rand) in Troy, Mich.
Stock earned his juris doctorate degree, graduating cum laude, from Wayne State University in Detroit and a bachelor`s degree from the University of Detroit. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.
