Brooks Kushman P.C., a specialized intellectual property (IP) and commercial law firm, has appointed
Mark Sparschu, shareholder, to head the firm`s
trademark group. The appointment was announced by
Mark Cantor, president of the firm, and furthers the continued success of the firm`s diverse trademark team.
“With more than 16 years of intellectual property law experience as both in-house and outside counsel, Mark brings a new caliber of leadership to our already successful trademark team,” Cantor said. “I look forward to the new dynamic he will bring in managing and fostering this growing practice area.”
In his new role, Sparschu leads the firm`s 25-member trademark department, which has seen significant growth in recent years. Brooks Kushman`s trademark professionals effectively represent the firm`s clients in a full range of trademark matters, including clearance, registration, enforcement and transactional matters. The firm protects its clients` valuable brands against infringement and counterfeiting, and prides itself on being well-versed in cutting-edge areas of the law, such as the use and misuse of trademarks in cyberspace. Brooks Kushman offers its clients a rare breadth and depth of trademark expertise, allowing matters to be staffed with exceptional efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Sparschu joined Brooks Kushman in 2009 as a senior attorney. Previously, he served as chief trademark counsel for Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich., where he had overall global responsibility for the trademark law matters for Ford and its worldwide subsidiaries, including the Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin brands. In this capacity, he led a group of in-house counsel in four countries and outside counsel throughout the world.
“Brooks Kushman`s trademark practice is unique in its depth and breadth of legal expertise, which allows us to effectively serve both small entrepreneurs and multinational Fortune 100 companies,” Sparschu said. “Our ability to handle a range of IP matters – from the simple to the most complex and from domestic to global – is one of the main tenets of our success.”
The resources that Brooks Kushman`s trademark group can bring to bear on behalf of its clients are extensive. The firm is regularly recognized as one of the top trademark-filing firms in terms of domestic trademark applications and, all told, the firm manages more than 20,000 trademark applications and registrations worldwide for its clients. The firm represents its clients in virtually every country on Earth.
“I`m honored by my recent appointment and anticipate leading the trademark group to future accomplishments,” Sparschu said. “With our talent, resources and ambition, we`re really poised for continued growth in both the domestic and international arenas. Our trademark practice complements Brooks Kushman`s world-class patent, litigation and intellectual property transactional capabilities.”
Sparschu earned a juris doctor degree, graduating with honors, from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree, graduating first in his class, from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, Mich. Sparschu is member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan IP Law Association, Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO) and International Trademark Association (INTA).
