ROYAL OAK, Michigan – Brooks Kushman attorney Bryan Hart was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Intellectual Property Owner Association (IPO) for 2025 by the IPO Board.
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee includes several members from across the country who focus on diversity issues and related matters. The committee is responsible for advising the IPO Board on policies and programs that align with the IPO Membership and Values statement. The committee plays a key role in creating educational materials, such as white papers and toolkits, to promote D&I efforts within the intellectual property profession. It manages resource groups for underserved populations in the membership who self-identify or volunteer to participate. Finally, the committee collaborates with other IPO Committees to create synergistic projects and programs.
As Vice Chair, Hart will help maintain organizational focus around and execution of diversity and inclusion programming offered by the committee. Hart has been active within IPO for many years and has previously held the role of Secretary in the committee.
Hart specializes in all areas of patent law, with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications in mechanical, electrical, and software technologies. He has handled hundreds of applications across diverse fields, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, machine vision, robotics, vehicle sensor cleaning, airbags, and additive manufacturing. His extensive litigation experience spans federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. This litigation background enables him to strategically consider enforcement potential throughout the patent prosecution process.
The IPO is a trade association for owners of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. IPO is the only association in the U.S. that serves all intellectual property owners in all industries and all fields of technology. Established in 1972, the organization is composed of about 200 companies and more than 12,000 individuals.
