SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman shareholder Christopher Smith will speak at the fifth annual IAM Patent Licensing event in San Francisco, California on October 3, 2019. The presentation, called “Making It Happen: Strategies for Cross-Industry Success,” will focus on how to develop a strategic approach to licensing opportunities with the continual convergence of industry and technology. Smith will also discuss how to deal with inexperienced licensees in new industry sectors, and how experts are getting the deals through.
Smith concentrates his practice on intellectual property litigation, with a primary emphasis on patent litigation. In addition to litigation, Smith is involved with the preparation of invalidity and infringement opinions and licensing disputes. He is also Vice Chair of the IPO Association IP Licensing Committee, and Second Vice President for the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association.
Smith has represented clients from Fortune 500 companies, to start-ups and individual inventors in a variety of industries. He is experienced in a wide range of technologies including: (1) automotive, including infotainment; (2) medical devices; (3) internet, including content delivery networks; and (4) telecommunications, including fiber optics. His experience in patent prosecution has helped him better understand the process of obtaining a patent, including analyzing file histories, which has been invaluable to him during litigation, especially in formulating claim construction and invalidity positions.
IAM is one of the world’s leading IP business information provider. IAM was established in July 2003 to address the need for organizations to maximize the value of their intellectual property and other intangibles, and to examine the strategies that they can put in place to do this.
