Brooks Kushman Shareholder Kristin Murphy Named to Western New England University’s Board of Trustees

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.Brooks Kushman Shareholder, Kristin Murphy, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for Western New England University (WNE) in Springfield, Mass. Murphy has also been appointed to Academic Affairs Committee for WNE.

WNE`s Board of Trustees serves as the University`s main advisory council, establishing policies and procedures that govern the development of educational programs and guide the University`s daily operations.

“I am honored to join WNE`s Board of Trustees and look forward to using my legal and engineering, as well as my teaching background to guide the University`s disciplines in future development to best serve our students,” said Murphy.

Murphy has previously served as the Co-Chair of the Industrial Advisory Council for WNE`s School of Engineering, where she helped advise faculty on programs to educate engineering students and prepare them for the job market in their respective fields.
Murphy currently teaches as an adjunct professor for Michigan State University`s School of Law, and has previously taught at Franklin Pierce Law in New Hampshire and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan.

Murphy`s practice focuses on strategic patent portfolio development. She is also the Chair of Brooks Kushman`s IP Due Diligence practice. In her role, she counsels companies, venture capitalists, and investors by helping them evaluate the viability of patent portfolio assets and properly understand the strengths and weaknesses of the intellectual property assets which enables them to make critical investment decisions.
Murphy earned her Juris Doctor and LLM from the University of New Hampshire and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Western New England University.

In addition to her new role with WNE`s Board of Trustees, Murphy will continue as the immediate past president of the Women`s Bar Association of Oakland County and president of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association. Murphy also currently serves as on the advisory council of The Pink Fund, a Michigan-based charity aiding women and men battling breast cancer.
