SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman is pleased to announce Sangeeta Shah has been recognized as a Notable Women Lawyer in Michigan by Crain’s Detroit Business. This award honors female lawyers who are not only leaders in their workplace and the legal industry, but in their community.
Shah serves as the firm’s Chief Diversity Officer and Co-Chair of Post-Grant Proceedings. She has been pivotal in the overall growth of the firm, and more particularly the growth of diverse professionals at the firm. Through her efforts, Brooks Kushman has become one of the more diverse IP practices in Michigan. She is also a leader within the firm and helped develop the firm’s Post-Grant Proceedings practice.

Shah is also recognized for her passion for education. She launched a literacy non-profit organization called Retooling Detroit in 2013, which focuses on giving children in the Detroit Public Schools individualized instruction in order to bridge the literacy divide. Retooling Detroit is currently partnering with TutorMate to expand their reach, and with Shah’s guidance 20 Brooks Kushman employees currently tutor one-on-one weekly with a student in the Detroit Public Schools.
With over 20 years of experience, Sangeeta`s practice includes all aspects of intellectual property litigation, prosecution and counseling, with a special focus on post-grant challenges and patent opinions. She represents several Fortune 500 clients for whom she provides strategic counseling and guidance on their global intellectual property portfolios.
This year, nearly 60 women throughout Michigan were honored to be included in the elite group of Notable Women Lawyers in Michigan 2017. To be considered for the award, the attorneys had to be nominated by their peers, based on their excellence in the legal industry and their community.
