SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and Co-Chair of Litigation Chanille Carswell was featured in an article by Detroit Legal News on her recent appointment to Chief Diversity Officer. This article, titled “Leading Role: Firm’s New Chief Diversity Officer Aims to Broaden Mentoring, Recruiting Efforts,” highlights Carswell’s legal career and background as well as her goals for the DEI program at the firm.
In this role, Carswell will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the firm. Carswell has always been very engaged within our Diversity Committee, including by actively supporting many of our key diversity initiatives and facilitating the firm’s participation in the Wolverine Bar Association’s Summer Clerkship Program. As CDO, she will focus her efforts on expanding Brooks Kushman’s involvement in DEI associations, pipeline initiatives, and community outreach programs. Carswell will also continue prioritize transparency and objectiveness in our hiring and promotional processes, improved metric tracking so we are aware of and able to address shortfalls and ensuring opportunities for diverse individuals to grow and succeed within the firm. It is Carswell’s aim that Brooks Kushman continue to be a leader in the DEI space.
Carswell is a native Detroiter who endeavors to stay engaged in the legal and local communities. In 2015, she was a Fellow with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) and continues to participate as an alum. She is the Membership Chair for the Michigan Intellectual Property Inn of Court and she is a regular supporter of Alternatives for Girls, a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and at-risk girls and women in Detroit.
