ROYAL OAK, Michigan – Brooks Kushman CEO Sangeeta Shah is one of four experienced PTAB practitioners that will help train upcoming lawyers on oral advocacy in the upcoming Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) Legal Experience and Advancement Program (LEAP) for the America Invents Act (AIA) Oral Hearing Encore on Friday, May 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
In step one of the LEAP training program, LEAP practitioners will present arguments in a mock AIA trial proceeding before a panel of PTAB administrative patent judges. After arguments, the practitioners will participate in a panel discussion on the effectiveness of the arguments and approaches demonstrated during the mock argument. The LEAP program provides training and oral advocacy opportunities for less experienced advocates in proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). In step two, LEAP practitioners have an opportunity to witness experienced practitioners argue the same case in the Oral Hearing Encore.
Sangeeta Shah is the CEO of Brooks Kushman, responsible for leading the firm’s Executive Committee. In addition to serving as the CEO, Shah maintains an active docket as an IP practitioner with over 25 years of experience in managing patent portfolios, PTAB matters, patent litigation and opinions. Shah works closely with several Fortune 500 clients for whom she provides strategic counseling and guidance on global intellectual property portfolios. Her patent expertise has resulted in national recognition from Managing IP, Best Lawyers, IAM 300, AIPLA and the PTAB Bar Association.
Prior to becoming CEO, Shah served as the firm’s Chief Diversity Officer. In that position, she developed and implemented a range of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within and outside of the firm through outreach programs and partnerships.
