SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – IAM is hosting Auto IP USA in Detroit, a one-day event that will provide content-led programming and in-depth discussions with IP experts and key players across the auto industry. Topics include how technology will transfer in mobility, what future cars will look like, and IP challenges of the future in light of technology changes in the automotive industry.
Brooks Kushman shareholder John LeRoy will be speaking on a panel at the event focusing on innovation and collaboration in the auto industry, specifically with alliances. The panel will discuss how these partnerships can create complex issues for IP experts and the assets they own and that are created during these alliances. They will also address such issues as how to successfully manage trade secrets and collaboration and how internal policies may need to be adjusted to allow alliances.
With over 15 years of software patent, trade secret, and copyright litigation experience, LeRoy is recognized for his IP management strategies and work in the courtroom. He leverages his electrical engineering and legal background to create efficient solutions to complex legal issues in the computer industry. He also started the firm’s Open Source Software Compliance practice, and has been working with corporations to navigate the proper use of open source software in today’s products. With respect to SEP/FRAND licensing, John works with automotive OEMs and suppliers to address licensing standard essential patents for wireless communication technology. LeRoy has also been recognized for his history of success in federal courts nationwide, and was recently named as Michigan IP Litigator of the Year.
