Southfield, Mich. – Brooks Kushman shareholder Sangeeta G. Shah has been named a 2016 Woman to Watch by the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA)’s Women in IP Law Committee.
Shah was chosen amongst over a dozen other submissions on behalf of leading female attorneys across the nation. She was honored for her accomplishments, career successes, leadership and community involvement.
Shah serves as co-chair of the firm’s post grant proceedings practiced as well as the chief diversity officer. Her practice is primarily focused on post-grant challenges and patent opinions. She represents several Fortune 500 clients for whom she provides strategic counseling and guidance on their global IP portfolios. She is frequently called upon to counsel clients in developing best practices and strategic planning of their patent portfolios, including writing successful patent applications in complex and novel situations, in anticipation of possible future litigation.
Shah is not only a leader within the firm but within the community and legal profession as well. In 2012 she launched a literacy non-profit organization known as “Retooling Detroit,” which focuses on giving children in the Detroit Public Schools individualized instruction in order to bridge the literacy divide. She has also been instrumental in implementing several of the firm’s female empowerment efforts including an initiative in partnership with the Girl Scouts to promote STEM education among its members as well as a women’s global networking event in partnership with AIPLA.
AIPLA’s Women in IP Law Committee focuses on developing substantive and relevant programming that focuses on and promotes women in IP Law in addition to developing leadership opportunities within AIPLA for female members. The committee implemented the Women to Watch program in January of 2016. One woman is selected per quarter and featured in a quarterly publication.
