Six lawyers from the intellectual property (IP) law firm Brooks Kushman P.C. were named to the Super Lawyers list for 2008. Southfield, Mich.-based Brooks Kushman has more lawyers included in the IP categories of the 2008 Super Lawyers list than any other law firm in Michigan. The Super Lawyers list recognizes outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Firm President Mark A. Cantor, as well as shareholders William G. Abbatt, Frank A. Angileri, Thomas A. Lewry, John E. Nemazi and Robert C.J. Tuttle were named to this year`s Super Lawyers list. Additionally, five Brooks Kushman lawyers were named Rising Stars. Matthew M. Jakubowski, John S. LeRoy, Amy C. Leshan, Matthew R. Mowers and Brian S. Tobin were recognized as being among the top up-and-coming attorneys in Michigan.
The Brooks Kushman lawyers that have been named to the 2008 Super Lawyers list in the IP Litigation category include:
• Mark A. Cantor, president, registered patent attorney and professional engineer, leads the firm`s litigation practice. One of the founders of the firm in 1983, Cantor has been involved in much of the major litigation handled by Brooks Kushman. He has handled and tried cases in state and federal courts throughout the country and in a number of international forums;
• Frank A. Angileri, shareholder, registered patent attorney and corporate secretary, has been lead counsel for clients such as Ford Motor Co., as well as small entrepreneurs. His practice covers a full range of IP matters and he is involved in most of Brooks Kushman`s appellate work;
• Thomas A. Lewry, shareholder and registered patent attorney, serves as the head of Brooks Kushman`s patent litigation group. His litigation practice addresses a wide-range of IP matters and often involves the representation of high-tech companies. Lewry also drives the firm`s adoption of new technologies to enhance client service; and
• Robert C.J. Tuttle, shareholder and registered patent attorney, is one of the firm`s key litigators. Tuttle works closely with his clients to thoroughly understand their business objectives so he can determine the best course of action.

• William G. Abbatt, shareholder and registered patent attorney, has an active IP practice that includes counseling, patent preparation, prosecution, enforcement, transactions and licensing. His background in materials sciences allows him to work with manufacturing processes, metallurgy, chemistry and mechanical engineering. Having spent time in industry before and while attending law school, his experience provides him with a practical sensitivity to business and legal issues. Abbatt has an affinity for working with emerging companies whose value can be enhanced by effective management of their IP; and
• John E. Nemazi, shareholder and registered patent attorney, heads the patent prosecution group at Brooks Kushman, where he provides a unique service that combines elements of law, marketing and design. In addition to providing strategic design counsel, Nemazi also advises clients regarding their “freedom to practice” opinions to ensure that existing patents will not impede a proposed technology.
